Well Traveled Companion: Reviewing the Tudor Black Bay GMT

Tudor has added a world time function to the Black Bay with the MT5652 manufacture movement. This GMT version not only runs more accurately than many other chronometer-tested watches but also boasts a 70-hour power reserve and a time display that can be set in several different ways.
Tudor Black Bay GMT front
The TUDOR Black Bay GMT offers a user-friendly second-time zone function at an attractive price.
Global mobility and travel around the world are no longer the exclusive privileges of pilots, top executives, and other jet-setting professionals. The GMT function allows the watch wearer to read the time in a second time zone, which is not only appropriate for our global age but also well suited to the TUDOR Black Bay. In the spirit of Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, who founded Montres Tudor SA in 1946 as a high-quality but less costly alternative to Rolex, our test watch, the Black Bay GMT, retains an attractive price-performance ratio while wrapped in a movement of the brand’s own manufacture. Not only does the Black Bay GMT feature a time zone suitable for everyday use, but the model also reaffirms TUDOR’s corporate strategy of achieving the brand’s independence and unique identity. Tudor had relied on movements made by other Swiss manufacturers since its inception until 2015 when the MT5612 and MT5621 movements became the first Tudor movements to be encapsulated within the brand’s fake watches. After the chronograph movement MT5813, made in partnership with Breitling, the MT5652 movement followed as the second manufactured movement with additional complications.
The Time Displays Can Function in Different Ways
When the crown is pulled to the center position and turned manually, the hour hand moves forward or backward to indicate the time in different regions while carrying the date, proving that this design is not just a modular addition to the existing movement. All this happens without interrupting the balance wheel, which means that accurate time is always kept down to the second. We are familiar with similar mechanisms found in other modern movements, such as those of Omega and Breitling.
The bezel has been rotated to point to a second-time zone along with the 24-hour hand. If you put the bezel back in its original position, you can read the time in the third time zone.
The time zone function can be used in several different ways. The basic option is to use the second hour hand as a 24-hour display associated with your local time zone. If you want to quickly display a different time zone, simply twist the bidirectional rotatable bezel until the correct hour numerals align with the tip of the 24-hour hand. The blue and red color scheme of the bezel immediately indicates whether the selected second-time zone is day or night. The rotatable bezel has 48 separate fixed positions, allowing you to set it for regions that differ by half an hour from their neighbors, such as India, Myanmar, and South Australia. The second option is to use the 24-hour hand to select a second time while keeping the bezel in its original position. The disadvantage of this method is that the Rolex replica watch’s movement must stop when the third pull-out position of the crown is manually turned, which means you must reset the second hand to return to the second timing. The hour hand naturally rotates when the crown is turned in the setting position, so this hand must also be restored to its correct local time position and, if necessary, the date switch.
